Alaska Sessions played to a sold out crowd at the Homer Theatre last night. While there wasn’t a red carpet, we felt pretty big-time seeing ourselves on the big screen in such a great movie. Well done Frederick Dickerson, Matthew McNeill and m/v Milo.

The WORLD PREMIERE of the ‘Alaska Sessions’ film is happening in the little town of Homer, Alaska in less than a week. Don’t miss it on the big screen! We don’t know when it will be available online or as a dvd so this could be your only chance this year to see us surf our way from Sitka to Homer in the month of November.

I’m writing this from aboard the m/v Milo, It’s dark outside now, all i can hear is the willywahs beating the sides of the boat as she leans over from the force. Earlier in the day we could watch the waterspouts twirling past us, occasionally slamming right into us. When one hits us straight on we can feel the low pressure in our ears as it passes around the boat. It’s a clear reminder that we are in the birthplace of the storms.

You’ll never know unless you go. This thought often makes us get in the car for the 3.5 hr one way drive to Turnagain Arm in search of the often elusive boretide. The tides are very predictable, the wave – not so much.

It’s always a gamble with the countless variables that change the wave, and then there’s the wind.  Ever since last fall we have been trying to find the monster wave we saw near the town of Hope. So far this year we are yet to see it. The serpent seems to be sleeping.

On one fine day this summer we did score a sweet, glassy, twenty minute ride with some nice clean faced sections. It wasn’t the double overhead wave we were hoping for, but it was good times. […]
