Once upon a Milo surf boat trip. It was late fall 2014 and McFish and I were eager to get out and surf some Gulf of Alaska goodness. We rounded up a couple willing compadres and headed out for what became a trip we’ll never forget. Good waves, big waves, hollow waves and a few that were all three. […]
Most board bags available are not designed with our typical Alaskan surf trip in mind. There are two major issues we’ve encountered with many of our board bags.
If the bag has a plasticized fabric these often fracture in extreme cold temperatures. The material becomes brittle and breaks like a sheet of ice – strange and disappointing!
The second common issue is zippers seizing […]
It’s been an incredible winter of surfing here in Alaska. The storms just keep coming and somehow we keep being in the right spot at the right time. I’ve been busy gathering the stories and action for our upcoming Surf Alaska video series. I was hoping to have the first episode together by the new year, but with so much […]
It was about sixteen years ago that my friend Justin and I started bodysurfing in the wind slop hitting the beach in Homer, Alaska. We couldn’t drive, we didn’t have our own wetsuits, we shared a single hood. Our parents would drop us off on the beach and pick us up shortly after hypothermia was settling in. After a few […]
Yep. We’ve got it pretty awesome. Not a wave goes by that we don’t appreciate.
This 4 day jaunt into the Gulf of Alaska to visit a few of our favorite waves was much appreciated when it suddenly arrived. It was a trip so last minute that we couldn’t even get our best surfing buddies to join us. Lucky for us Josh Skoglund of JGS Concepts rallied to come along to document. Mike and Scott were so busy surfing all by themselves there would have been no evidence otherwise! […]
Trick or Treat? Did Iceman make it out of this one in his black ninja costume?
Iceman surfing a barreling river mouth last weekend. We are heading back out after this one again on Friday if you want to join us. Hopefully it will be twice as big and blowing offshore!
This fall has been not only sunny and gorgeous but has also offered its share of good surf in the Gulf of Alaska. While I can’t say we surfed it all, we did do our best. This particular morning in the gulf I had several good days of 4+ hr sessions behind me, the stars were out, and the tide was right for a sunrise session so I jumped in the water with the camera. Mike McCune, Matt Lukin, and Jeremy Cerutti were enjoying some nice waves as the sun peeked over the mountains. […]
